Our Straws

Why choose Simply Straws?

Simply Straws - Glass Straws

We've upgraded to glass. Try it once and you'll understand why.

They're reusable, durable (lifetime guarantee - if you break 'em, we replace 'em), recyclable, dentist recommended and handmade in California with equal portions of logic and love. The materials are BPA-free, hypoallergenic and the colors are non-toxic.

Like your regular utensils and dishes, they're a pleasure to sip anything through (even $3 box wine), and they're beautiful objects if we do say so ourselves.

The other benefit of glass straws is that they are far more environmentally friendly. Traditional plastic straws are one-time-use, and cannot be recycled, so they wind up in landfills and our oceans as little micro-particles. While one individual straw doesn’t create an environmental disaster, it’s the scale that creates an issue - in the United States alone, over 500 million disposable plastic straws are used and thrown away every day. You can wash and reuse glass straws, you won’t be contributing to the waste.

All of us carry a desire for a better way, a hope that we will somehow leave this world a better place than how we found it. "Straws for a Cause" is our contribution to donating a minimum of 1% of our gross income (through 1% to the planet) to the benefiting organizations above. We have been fortunate to support and collaborate with non-profits that inspire us and help us in activating and educating against  disposable plastic. Our goal is to build momentum collectively work closely on projects creating awareness about sustainability, our health, our environment, in addition to providing the needed support to continue their vision. We are proud to promote and encourage the work of so many inspiring activist and groups. Please join us in the journey to make a difference each and everyday!

Simply Straws - Stainless Steel

We scoured the earth and found a stainless steel option that we are proud to add to our Simply Straws collection. We researched the varying quality and manufacturing process of steel, as well as studied the way your sipping changes with a steel straw. We have created a new stainless steel collection to increase the usability of our newest plastic alternatives and combat the issues with a tradition metal straw. For camping excursions, the kiddos still going through that throwing stage, or to add a metallic flare to your drink, our stainless steel straws will elevate your sipping style.

Our stainless steel features:

  • 18/8 Food Grade Stainless Steel - 18/8 grade stainless steel refers to the composition of the steel (18% chromium/8% nickel). The percentage of these elements impact the quality, durability and temperature resistance of steel. Nickel, for example, enhances the corrosion resistance of our straws and chromium binds oxygen to the surface of the product to protect the iron from oxidation (rust). Our stainless steel is also comprised of no more than 0.8% carbon and at least 50% iron for strength.
  • Beveled Straw Tip - a rounded edge provides a safe drinking experience so you don't have to worry about a sharp metal edge.
  • Our stainless is durable, reusable, and resist oxidation and corrosion. We offer a lifetime guarantee against breakage on our stainless straws.
  • Easy to Clean- dishwasher safe and easy to clean with our cleaning brush.
  • Dentist & Hygienist recommended - just like our glass straws, stainless steel straws reduce staining and erosion of your enamel.

What about Plastic, Metal or even Bamboo Straws?

Plastic Straws

The straws which might come with your cold soft drink or hot tea/coffee, are made from plastic. A chemical used to make plastic straws can mimic the activity of hormones, such as estrogen, in the body, which can lead to reproductive disorders, breast and prostate cancer, diabetes, heart disease, obesity and other conditions. This risk is compounded when combined with heat, as warmer temperatures cause more compounds to leak out into food.

BPA free plastic straws can add other hormone-altering substances into the foods and drinks you and your family are consuming. Glass straws do not contain these harmful substances, you eliminate this risk when switching from plastic to glass straws.

Metal Straws

Be sure you know what kind of metal your straw is made of as well as the grade of stainless. Often metal straws are made with toxic chemicals or weak metal that contaminate your beverage when consuming.  Metals changes temperatures and can have a share edge. Be care not to burn/freeze or cut yourself when using a lower quality metal straw. We have mitigated these challenges with our 18/8 food-grade stainless steel straw line.

Bamboo Straws

This alternative is an unusual one but oh so natural! Bamboo drinking straws are eco-friendly and made from real whole bamboo stalks, however, mildew which is a kind of mold that's particularly hard to get rid of once it starts loves the inside of bamboo straws.  It may be harder to get out of bamboo straws because you can not see through the bamboo and it does not dry easily.  Also, the interior is very porous.

We'd like to leave the world a better place than when we came into it, sip by sip, and we'd like you to join us in this endeavor.
